Who is the best wrestler in the world?
It depends on what you mean by “wrestler.” There are two major meanings:
🤼 Professional wrestling
If you mean WWE/AEW-style professional wrestling, there is no universally recognized “best” because it depends on whether you value in-ring ability, championships, popularity, storytelling, or overall career.
As of September 17, 2026, WrestleIndex’s rolling 90-day ranking has CM Punk at #1, followed by Will Ospreay and Roman Reigns.
🥇 Olympic/real competitive wrestling
If you mean amateur/Olympic wrestling (freestyle, Greco-Roman, women’s wrestling), there isn’t one overall #1 because wrestlers compete in different weight classes. United World Wrestling (UWW) ranks them separately. For example, its current freestyle rankings have Chong Song Han #1 at 57 kg, while Alisher Ganiev is #1 at 60 kg in Greco-Roman.
If you’re asking “Who is the greatest wrestler of all time?”, I can give you a factual comparison of names such as The Undertaker, John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Shawn Michaels.
